Anyone will tell you draperies are a style statement. They have long been used because of so many benefits and look great at the window. Instantly softening a room, draperies are always a sure way to give a room dimension. But are you familiar with the current drapery trends? We have inspiration and tips to show you what’s hot in design.

Mesmerizing Patterns

Do you love a good patterned fabric? Does the sight of damasks, stripes, paisleys, or florals bring you instant joy? If yes, you’re in luck. Current drapery trends are embracing patterns to enhance windows of all shapes and sizes.

Small Details

Hardware is a detail some may overlook. Whether it’s matte black, gold, bronze–or beyond–this decision may seem small, but it truly makes a big impression. It sets the stage for the overall vibe of what you want to bring to the window. It can further the look from one room to another. One window to the next. And that brings us to the header style. The header refers to the way in which the top of the drapery panel is finished, resulting in how the fabric attaches to the curtain rod. It can be very cohesive to have all the headers matching. The type of attachment can be with rings, drapery hooks, or grommets.

Pinch pleat styling is the most popular header style. Grommets fall into second place and then ripple-fold. Ripple-fold draperies can be attached with a special track that hides the look of a curtain rod, if that’s your desired look.

Layering Done Right

Who doesn’t love layering draperies? It is timeless, simply sophisticated, and so easy to do. Layering brings together textures, colours, and weights to all intermingle beautifully.

Provenance® Woven Wood Shades with Custom Drapery

One of the go-to drapery trends is layering linen and woven shades. The linen flows effortlessly around the window as a soft delicate frame. This is then complemented by the dependable and sturdy, yet organic looking, shades to complete the look. Both linen curtains and woven shades have immense light filtering capabilities and light control. Pretty and smart!

Luminette® Privacy Sheers with Custom Draperies

Another duo we love to see is solid drapes with sheers. The concept is similar with the softness of the sheers, but outlined with the heavier weight of the drapery. The solid drapery increasing your control, but the sheers will still let the outside view be seen.

It Just Keeps Getting Better

There are “guidelines” when it comes to concepts in design. However, they are just that…guidelines. They don’t have to be followed, and it’s your home, so you get to do whatever makes you happy. One way to go against the grain is putting drapery in places where they commonly aren’t seen. For example, the master bathroom or the closet. What about the laundry room? These areas can have adventure and be brought to life.

Colour Conscious

Are you a neutral or splash of colour person when it comes to your home? It may take a little time to make that decision, but only you can. It helps to take a look at pictures for inspiration and to really hone in on what speaks to you.
